Hard to believe, but even from a crisis-ridden region like the Eastern Congo, a specialty coffee full of harmony is created. In addition to excellent aromas, this project coffee provides real economic prospects and self-determination for the female farmers of the cooperative, as well as good arguments for the preservation of the Virunga National Park.

About the project

Kivu | Coopade | Congo

Located on the border of Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, the Kivu region is home to coffee varieties with impressive flavor profiles.

Although the area is constantly plagued by conflict, collaboration between coffee farmers, "Farm Africa" and Virunga National Park promotes peace through the cultivation of specialty coffees.
Founded in 1925, Virunga National Park is the oldest national park in Africa and one of the last refuges of the mountain gorilla. It is also home to the highly endangered lowland gorillas as well as savanna elephants, chimpanzees, lions, leopards and antelopes. It has the greatest diversity of bird life in the world. Due to its location in eastern DR Congo, the park faces many existential challenges. For Virunga National Park, preserving its extraordinary wildlife and promoting the social and economic well-being of the people of North Kivu who live around the park go hand in hand.
Virunga National Park is implementing an extensive agricultural program aimed at improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers around the park by investing in the production and marketing of their produce, including coffee. In this way, pressure on farmers to enter the park will be reduced and farmers will benefit positively from the park's presence.
